Val Nebbia
Come to Zü Coffee and enjoy an informal session with one of our area's top performers! Val Nebbia will perform her original songs in one hour of light sounds every Thursday. See you there!
The Annapolis, Maryland native was raised climbing over the hockey sticks, GI Joes, and Nintendo controllers of her three brothers to reach for her father's guitar and to speak the truth about home and good cooking but also about the blood and grit that is life. Surrounded by the sounds of CCR, Simon & Garfunkel, Talking Heads, Brit-pop, and Neil Young, Valerie blended these influences with a healthy dose of Patty Griffin to form her own sound. The Calvin College graduate has emerged as a literate songwriter possessing introspective, gospel/spiritual, sad-girl/strong-woman, honest, vulnerable artistry. Take the characters of Jane Austen's books, the wisdom of Calvin & Hobbes, the bravery of the Scots, and the compassion of Lisa Simpson and blend them all together.

The Poet Experience
Come be part of a poetry reading and open mic night with The Poet Experience at Zü Coffee every fourth Friday of the month! Sit back and listen to poems and stories from some amazing poets and (if you would like) bring some of your own poems to share.
This September 26 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, join hosts Cliff Lynn and Rocky Jones for the Occasional (or perhaps Annual) Bring Something / Show and Tell Experience! To quote Rocky:
"Bring Something - The Show & Tell Experience is the same as our regular reading except... 1. The featured guest is everybody, and 2. You may participate as usual, or elect to immerse yourself in our SHOW & TELL experiment.
Our Show & Tell experiment is: just as we did in grade school, bring something that is meaningful to you, and talk about it. You may even recite a poem you have written about it, though not necessary at all.
There are a few NECESSARY requirements though:
1. Keep it under 5 minutes. This is a serious CHALLENGE to meet.
Whatever you bring will obviously have meaning to you. How do you talk about such a thing while constraining yourself to 5 minutes? How to wax sentimental, or expound anecdotal without running over time? FIGURE IT OUT!
2. We're not a bunch of prudes, but do exercise some constraint in choosing what to bring. Leave the marital aids and crotchless trousers at home.
3. We do not want to hear your commercial. We really, really don't want to hear it. This is for fun and creativity, not to sell your whatever you are selling, or to advance your career or side business. I don't have a gong or tar & feather supplies but we will come up with some way of making it clear to anybody who crosses the line. Don't be a wanker.
If you have nothing to bring except your latest poem, it's business as usual. In fact, if I were going to a Show & Tell that wasn't a poetry reading, I might bring a poem."
Zü Coffee is located at 934 Bay Ridge Road, Annapolis in the Giant Shopping Center. The next Poet Experience will be on October 24.
